The Estate

Geographical Location

Our domaine is located in the area of the Côte des Blancs, a lime-stone cliff perpendicular to the Reims mountain, south-east of Epernay.
The six 100% classified Grands Crus, of with Le Mesnil is one, are located midway on the chalky slopes on a thin layer of stones on the tertiary layers where the seonian limestone reaches the surface in a block sometimes over 200 metres deep.
This geological feature presents an obvious advantage: that of storing solar energy and releasing it slowly and regulary, especially overnight.

The key grape variety is the Chardonnay which is best known for its elegance, finesse and freshness.
The Chardonnay grape is the sole grape variety used in the Robert Cuvée Réserve and the vintage champagne "Le Mesnil".
Our other champagnes- Cuvée Pauline, Champagne Rosé and Cuvée Séduction- are made from several grape varieties ; chardonnay the only white grape and pinot noir and pinot meunier the two black grape varieties.
The black grapes come from another vineyard in the Marne valley on a more sandy soil. At the present we exploit 11 hectares of vines of an average age of 25-30 years.

The surface area of any given plot is extremely small, the average in our village being 1000 square metres. So we can say it is a gardening work.
Ageing

Primary fermentation takes place either in oak casks for the Cuvée Séduction or in small 50-90 hectolitre vats for the other types of champagne. We maintain a low temperature during this phase to enhance the aromatic potential of the wine.
The wine is then bottled and stored in our lime-stone cellars at 11-12°C- the ideal temperature to optimize the development of ultra fine bubbles.
Finally, our champagnes age on average 3 years in these cellars before to be taste.
Visiting The Estate

During your visit you will discover the press, the vat house, the cellars and you will become acquainted with the different steps in elaboration of a champagne. The visit ends with a mouth-watering tasting.
In certain conditions, by fixing an appointment well in advance, we can arrange a tasting session of several old vintages from our Vinothèque.
